Forgotten / Steel Culture

When I was throwing away some old computers, the guy at the dump directed me to an industrial size dumpster overflowing with old tech junk. No matter how advanced our tech toys get, they all end their lives as forgotten junk. Here an android assistant has been plugged in for a recharge. His owner bought a new model and promptly forgot about him. About a decade earlier I had done a painting with a similar theme called Steel Culture, which asked the question “what happens to all the old-model androids? Do they become homeless?”

Forgotten: Digital, 2003.

Steel Culture: Acrylic on masonite, 20″ x 30″. 1992.
